When planning your newborn photoshoot, you may wonder whether a studio newborn session or a lifestyle newborn session is the right choice for your family. While both styles beautifully capture those first days with your baby, the experience and look of the final images are quite different.
As a newborn photographer serving Atlanta, Marietta, West Cobb, Douglasville, Smyrna, and surrounding areas, I offer both styles—and honestly, I love them both. The best choice simply depends on how you want to remember this special season of your family's life.
What Is a Lifestyle Newborn Session?
A lifestyle newborn session is all about telling your family's story in the place where it is naturally unfolding: your home.
Instead of creating a studio backdrop, we use the spaces that are meaningful to your family, such as your living room, main bedroom, or nursery. These familiar surroundings become part of your baby's story.
The photographs tend to feel more natural, candid, and spontaneous. I'll still guide you through poses and interactions, but we'll also leave room for genuine moments to happen—holding your baby, cuddling together, feeding, rocking, or simply enjoying being a family of three, four, or more.
You don't need a perfect or perfectly decorated home. Your home is simply the setting for your story, and my job is to find the beautiful light, meaningful details, and connections within it.
What Is a Studio Newborn Session?
A studio newborn session focuses more on your baby and family against a simple, carefully designed backdrop.
As the name suggests, these sessions can take place in my studio in Douglasville. However, I also offer an in-home studio newborn experience, where I bring my portable studio setup directly to your home.
I'll bring the backdrop, professional lighting, newborn outfits, wraps, and other details needed to create the studio look. Instead of photographing throughout your home, we use a clean, simple background that keeps the focus on your baby and family.
Studio newborn photography tends to have a more posed and refined look. I'll gently guide you and your baby through different poses and setups to create beautiful portraits that feel intentional and classic.
Which Newborn Session Is Right for You?
If you love photographs that feel natural, candid, and connected to your family's everyday life, a lifestyle newborn session may be the perfect fit.
If you prefer clean backgrounds, beautiful newborn posing, and a more polished portrait style, you may love a studio newborn session.
And if you love the studio look but don't want to leave your home during those first few weeks after giving birth, an in-home studio newborn session gives you the best of both worlds. I bring the studio experience to you, so you can stay comfortable at home while we create beautiful, posed newborn portraits.
No Matter the Style, Your Story Comes First. There isn't a right or wrong choice. Both lifestyle and studio newborn photography allow us to preserve this fleeting chapter of your family's life in a meaningful way. Whether we're photographing your baby in your nursery or creating a simple studio portrait, my goal is always the same: to create images that bring you back to these first days—the tiny details, the connection, and the love you felt when your baby was finally home.
If you're looking for a newborn photographer in Atlanta, Marietta, West Cobb, Douglasville, or Smyrna, I'd love to help you choose the experience that feels most like you.
