Expecting a baby is one of the most beautiful, but also overwhelming, experiences. Your clothes don’t fit the same, sleep becomes difficult, and you feel hungry all the time. Every pregnancy is different, and we all experience it in our own way. If you are navigating pregnancy in Atlanta, Georgia, or anywhere else, know that you’re not alone in this journey.

It’s not just about you anymore—it’s about you and your baby. And sometimes, navigating pregnancy on your own can feel hard. So here are 5 practices that helped me during my pregnancy and can support you through this special season of motherhood:

1. Breathing exercises

There are different types of breathing exercises, but one of my favorites is simple: breathe in for 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds, and breathe out for 5 seconds. Repeat as many times as you need. It really helps you calm your body and mind during pregnancy.

2. Positive affirmations

The way you talk to yourself matters. When you’re struggling, remind yourself that things will get better, that your baby will be here soon, and that this feeling is temporary. At first, it might feel hard to believe—but over time, it can truly shift your mindset during pregnancy.

3. Prenatal movement

A friend once told me that if you want to strengthen your body and prepare for a natural birth, gentle prenatal movement can help. I did simple exercises using a yoga ball—bouncing gently, moving side to side, and front to back. I used to do this for about 15 minutes a day, and it made a difference.

4. Put yourself first

Pregnancy symptoms can show up at any time. You might make plans and then suddenly feel exhausted. And that’s okay. It’s okay to cancel plans and choose rest. Your real friends will understand. Your well-being matters—not just for you, but for your baby too.

5. Ask for help

This was one of the hardest things for me. I used to walk my dog, Rusty, three times a day—even during pregnancy. At first, it was fine. But as my belly grew, it became more difficult. One day, I fell while walking him. I scraped my knees and felt overwhelmed. I wanted to call my partner, Kyle, but I was too far from home.

When I got back, he noticed something was wrong, and I broke down. That moment made me realize how hard it was for me to ask for help. I always felt like I had to do everything on my own. But pregnancy taught me otherwise. After that, Kyle started helping more, and I allowed myself to rest without guilt.

Pregnancy is beautiful—but it’s also challenging. Be gentle with yourself. Whether you’re preparing for a maternity photoshoot in Atlanta or simply embracing this season, anything that brings you peace and support is worth it 🤍
